Privacy

Our sign up form requires you to provide certain personal information, including information about your:​

  • name and date of birth;

  • contact details;

  • address;

  • job title;

  • employer's details; and

  • other relevant information.​

We collect your personal information in order to:

  • verify that you are eligible to be a member of ALWU and comply with our legal obligations;

  • identify our membership and their interests; and

  • contact you as required.

We are obliged to hold your information confidentially and only use it for the purposes for which it was collected. Only members of our executive will have access to your information.

We reserve the right to share certain information anonymously and in aggregate, for the purpose of providing evidence of our members' collective interests. On these occasions we will take every care to ensure no details are released which could lead to identification of individual members.

​The information which we are legally required to gather from our members is marked as *required on the sign up form. If you choose not to enter the compulsory information, we will be unable to verify you as a member of ALWU. Other information is optional. We ask for this information in order to better understand your interests, but you are not required to provide this to us.

We keep your information safe by storing it on an encrypted drive and only allowing members of our executive to access it. We keep your information for the duration of your ALWU membership. When your membership ends, we securely destroy your information by erasing all digital information. We have a Privacy Officer to make sure we meet our obligations under the Privacy Act.

You have the right to ask for a copy of any personal information we hold about you, and to ask for it to be corrected if you think it is wrong. If you would like to ask for a copy of your information, or to have it corrected, please contact us at contact@alwu.org.nz.

If you feel we have breached your privacy, you have a right to complain to the Privacy Commissioner. You can complain on the Privacy Commissioner's website, or by mailing the complaint form, available on the website, to:
